All time in the Tantalus Range

Tantalized.

When things line up and become all time…

It was Tuesday night on March 22 at 8pm when the other partners cancelled. Anna Segal hesitated on our heli booking. I was at the Whistler Museum giving a presentation on 'Group Dynamics.' My text to Anna read, "I'm still in." Within ten minutes two women, Julie Cossette and Catherine Henry, were recruited from the audience and our group into the Tantalus Range was back on track.

Winter Dreaming

I know it sounds crazy that I am dreaming about winter already but I can't help it.  I am a addict.  It is true that I am addicted to skiing powder!

Winter at Irwin Colorado

This had been a very busy winter for me at Irwin Catskiing outside of Crested Butte, CO. After a slow start to the ski season, we have hit our stride with lots of snow and epic powder skiing since the end of January.

Photo: Ahhhh.…nice day!
The "Movie Cabin" Our base of operations at Irwin

With almost 100" of snowfall in the past six weeks, almost everyday has been deep. Twice in February we woke up to a surprise 17" of 4-6% density snowfall. Epic. Our guide staff Stoney jackets have proven to be more than versatile in everything from cold bluebird days to full on dumpage.

Slaying the deep

Catchin' guide air
At Irwin, all guides wear RIDE R.A.S. packs while working. We do control our terrain much like a ski area, however we use a lighter touch to keep the ski quality high. This means all guests are outfitted with Element beacons as well.
Soooo goood

Follow the leader!
As March warms up the skiing turns to corn and mountaineering descents. For the first time in six years I will be in Crested Butte for the spring skiing season. While I'll miss Chamonix next month, I'm pretty stoked to turn it up in the backyard for a change!

Pow-cember has arrived!

It sure feels good to be back on skis!

This winter is off to a banger start at Sun Valley.  We received over 60 inches in the last week to get the season rolling!  Town is electric and everybody is smiling and stoked!

I was lucky to get my Alyeska Jacket the day before the storm.  This jacket is bad ass!  I was totally dry while it was pouring at lower elevation and dumping up high. The Nordwand Pants performed equally well!  Thanks Mammut for keeping me warm and dry!

Enjoy this action from Sun Valley Resort from Monday.

March Madness Powder

Seems like each year the best days come in spring!  Here in central Idaho we always get pounded with snow in March/April.  Enjoy this edit from skiing at Sun Valley yesterday.  With over 30 inches of fresh how could you go wrong.

As always I stayed warm and dry in Mammut Gore Tex gear!  My Alagna jacket is my favorite for the resort.  I am rocking the Nordwand pant which is my go to for stormy weather.

Enjoy-Danny Walton

Sun Valley Powder

Blessings,
Life is good!  After the last storm I got the chance to go out and shoot with my friend Karl Weatherly at Sun Valley. It is always a good time when we get out and ski! These shots were taken 3 days after the storm. The sun came out and there was lots of freshies and face shots all day long. There is nothing like making sty-lee telemark turns in the pow!!!  I love it!
Be sure to check out Karl’s amazing website http://www.karlweatherly.com

Happy New Year from Sun Valley

Wow...what a winter so far! Yes "winter two thousand heaven" has blessed the west with loads of snow! Here is some follow cam from fellow K2 rider Zach Crist at Sun Valley last week. Sun Valley has been enjoying a great early season with La Nina!

As always I stayed warm and dry all day long with my Alagna jacket and pants! The Nirvana pack has been my go to pack at the resort for the last 3 season. It's the perfect size for everything you need to go bell to bell!

Peace and Powder,
Danny Walton
